Ambrette seed CO2 extract, produced by supercritical carbon dioxide extraction of Abelmoschus moschatus seed. The material owes its musky character principally to ambrettolide, a macrocyclic lactone.
Ambrette is the nearest thing natural perfumery has to a musk, and it is one of very few naturals that reads as genuinely skin-like. It is warm, slightly sweet, faintly nutty and softly floral, with excellent tenacity.
CO2 extraction avoids both thermal degradation and residual hydrocarbon solvent, which is particularly relevant for a material whose value lies in delicate macrocyclics.
