The frankincense and myrrh trade of northern Somalia and Somaliland is among the oldest continuously operating aromatic supply chains in the world. Resin is tapped from wild Boswellia and Commiphora stands during defined seasons, then graded by hand according to size, colour and cleanliness before distillation. Grading conventions vary between collectors and exporters, which is why lot-level identification matters more here than in cultivated crops.

Trade considerations

Wild-harvested resin volumes fluctuate with season, rainfall and regional access. Buyers should expect batch-to-batch variation in both resin grade and distilled oil profile.

A material is only shown under an origin where that origin is attached to its record. We do not infer origin from a trade name, and we do not list a country because it sounds right for the material.
