Vetiver oil steam-distilled from the washed and dried root of Chrysopogon zizanioides. Vetiver is one of the few materials where distillation length is a primary quality variable: longer runs recover heavier sesquiterpenes and produce a rounder, smokier, less green oil.
Madagascan vetiver sits between the smoky Haitian style and the drier Javanese, with an earthy-rooty core and a persistent woody-smoky dry-down. Extremely tenacious and a reliable fixative.
Root is typically cultivated by smallholders, harvested after 12 to 18 months, then washed, dried and chopped before distillation.

Earthy and rooty with smoky, woody depth and a faint sweetness in the dry-down. Very high tenacity; an anchor material and effective fixative.
Relative prominence of each descriptor, recorded on evaluation. Indicative only; not an analytical measurement.
Natural materials vary by harvest, season and lot. Specifications describe the referenced lot and are not a guarantee for future batches.

Vetiver is cultivated and is widely used for erosion control, so root harvesting is generally compatible with soil-stabilisation use. Smallholder sourcing means traceability depends on co-operative-level record keeping.
